When Pattonville High School science teacher Jamie Jobe came to work recently, she walked into her classroom to find it full of students and staff shouting "surprise" while a pep band played in the background. The celebration was part of the Pattonville Student Council's staff appreciation "Be Cool Campaign."
"I am so grateful to be recognized by StuCo as the Be Cool Teacher of the Year," Jobe said. "To say I was surprised would be an understatement! It is truly an honor to teach at Pattonville and share my passion for science with my students."
This is the second year the Student Council has surprised a staff member as part of its appreciation initiative. Band director Denny McFarland was the inaugural honoree. The campaign consists of surprising a staff member at the beginning of the school day and then showering that person with small gifts throughout the day.
"Our student leaders do a variety acts of kindness throughout the year to improve the school's climate," said Student Council sponsor Heather Johnston. "During the year, Student Council members nominate any staff member they feel needs to be recognized. We vote and then we secretly find out about what the staff member likes or is interested in."
Student Council members decorated Jobe's class with balloons and streamers. Upon arrival, they presented her with a basket full of goodies and a framed certificate for being their Be Cool Teacher of the Year.
